The Center for Women’s and Gender Studies at West Virginia University (WVU) (womensgenderstudies.wvu.edu) invites applications for a full-time Teaching Faculty position at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor beginning August 2015.  Appointment at the rank of Instructor requires a master’s degree; appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor requires a doctorate. In either case, the degree should be in Women’s and Gender Studies or a closely related area.  We seek a colleague with excellent communication and teaching skills who is able to teach in multiple formats (small- and large-enrollment, face-to-face and online), advise and mentor undergraduates, develop new courses and assess them, supervise teaching assistants, coordinate large student events, recruit majors and minors, and contribute to program needs by teaching two or more of the following courses: Introduction to Women’s and Gender Studies, Eco-Feminism, Women in Film, Gender and Violence, Gender and Violence in Horror Films, Sexuality in American Culture and Women in Appalachia.

Teaching faculty appointments at WVU are full-time, nine-month, renewable-term appointments with full benefits. Teaching faculty members with doctoral degrees are eligible for promotion in rank; however, promotion to senior ranks is not a requirement for institutional commitment and career stability. The teaching load is eight courses or course equivalents per year, with no traditional research assignment. Teaching faculty members are expected to present evidence of ongoing engagement in assessment-based advancement of instructional processes. The initial term is for one-year, renewable thereafter in terms of up to three-years, with no maximum number of terms. Summer teaching for additional compensation may be available.

To apply, please send via e-mail a cover letter addressing the skills and qualifications described above, a CV, evidence of successful teaching, and contact information for three references as a single PDF to Shelby McClure at smcclur4@mail.wvu.edu.  Direct inquires to the Director of the Center, Jennifer.Orlikoff@mail.wvu.edu.  Review of applications will begin on June 15, 2015 and continue until the position is filled.

WVU is an Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer and the recipient of an NSF ADVANCE award for gender equity.  The university is committed to diversity and welcomes applications from all qualified individuals, including minorities, females, individuals with disabilities, and veterans."
