Second-year MFA student Sarah Einstein's essay "Mot" has been selected to appear in the next Pushcart Prize anthology (Pushcart Prize XXXV: Best of the Small Presses).
This is a terrific achievement.
Sarah joins faculty members Jim Harms and Mary Ann Samyn, as well as MFA graduate Sara Pritchard, as recent Pushcart winners.
Although it is a major award, the Pushcart does not, alas, come with a large silver bowl, though WVU Foundation Outstanding Teacher Dennis Allen is rumored to be willing to rent his out.
Great work, Sarah!
Thanks, Mark! I'm bummed about the silver bowl, though. No one told me. Now what am I going to do with all the silver polish I ran out and bought? Think Dennis Allen might buy it from me at a discount?
ReplyDeleteProfessor Brazaitis had an elaborate plan to steal the bowl so it could be used for precisely such a situation as this, but the bowl and the international ring of bowl thieves he hired seem, both, to have vanished. I should note that Mark does have a lovely framed commendation of his own that might be available as a consolation prize. I'll volunteer to cross out his name and write in Sarah's (congratulations, Sarah!).
ReplyDeleteAs Sarah's first grade teacher, I am thrilled, but not surprised...she has always had a way with words! Congrats, Sarah.
